PSHE Curriculum Intent

“Do not judge me by my successes judge me on how many times I fell down and got up again.” Nelson Mandella

Why do we teach what we teach?

Our PSHE RSE curriculum at Giles Junior school is centred around ‘mindfulness’, safety and values. To deliver this curriculum we use a resource called ‘Jigsaw PSHE’. The teaching of the Jigsaw program aims to promote the spiritual, moral, cultural, mental and physical development of pupils at the school and of society therefore preparing them for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of later life.

It will support the development of the skills, attitudes, values and behaviour, which enable pupils to:

  • Have a sense of purpose
  • Value self and others
  • Form relationships
  • Make and act on informed decisions
  • Communicate effectively
  • Work with others
  • Respond to challenge
  • Be an active partner in their own learning
  • Be active citizens within the local community
  • Explore issues related to living in a democratic society
  • Become healthy and fulfilled individuals

Through this learning it is our intention to prepare children for life outside of school, helping them to understand and value who they truly are and to know how they relate to other people in our ever-changing world, underpinned by a strong foundation of our 7 Habits and British Values.

We believe that education is more than academics but preparing our children for a future which we might not know about.  Teaching them these skills is important so they can adapt and flex to suit the changing world we live in.
