Important Information

School Day: 8:55 am to 3:15 pm

A member of staff will be on duty from 8:40 a.m until 8:50 a.m. After this time all children should go straight to their classrooms to prepare for the start of the day. School starts at 8:55 a.m. and registers are closed at 9:00 am. It is most important that children arrive punctually. Any late attendance will be noted in the class register and on the child's annual report. The only exception to this is if we are told in advance that a child will be arriving late. It is expected that this will only be for unavoidable reasons i.e., hospital appointments or visits to the doctors / dentist.

After 9am children should enter school through the office.

If you are late for any reason collecting your child at the end of the school day they will remain in their classroom until 3:30 p.m. If you arrive after 3:30 p.m. you should collect them from the school reception.

How to help your child at home

The most important factor to helping children succeed is in supporting the school with the work we set.  Homework is given to reinforce learning that has taken place in class and should be given a dedicated time and place to complete this.  Should you have any queries regarding homework, please see your child’s class teacher.

Reading is an extremely important task for children  and they often enjoy the opportunity to read to an adult.  We ask that you try to read with your child once a evening.  It doesn’t need to be a reading book, it could be part of a magazine, recipe book, leaflet etc.

Communication between school and home

It is extremely important to everyone at Giles Junior School to have strong relationships with parents and carer.  Teachers are often at the class door in the morning and at the end of the day but should you wish to speak to a class teacher in more detail, we ask that you make a separate appointment to do so, in order for learning time to be least disrupted.

We publish a fortnightly newsletter and often use parentmail (a text messaging service) to contact you.
