Welcome to Year 4 at Giles Junior School!
In year 4, our dedicated, enthusiastic and hard-working team is formed as follows:
||Mrs Whelan||Mrs Clark / Mrs Harris|
|Zambia||Miss Sommerfelt||Miss Sewell|
|Costa Rica||Mrs Ford||Mrs Allaway|
The 7 Habits play an important role in our classrooms and during the first few weeks, we will work together to write a class mission statement and really embed our chosen learning behaviours so that we are prepared for the journey ahead.
We strive to become independent learners in year 4 and with this, we often have the opportunity to choose our challenges in Literacy and Maths. We all have a learning partner who is there to support us and be supported. This partner usually changes once a half term.
It is important that each of us has the opportunity to be a leader and so every child in the class is given a leadership role which they carry out in and around the school. These are swapped termly to ensure all children are given the opportunity to develop Leadership skills.
Reading is a key focus within our school and we encourage children to grow to love this life skill. We offer many opportunities for children to read in our classes and there is an expectation that all children will read at least 5 times a week. We ask that their reading record is signed by an adult. We have reward systems in place for children who read at home and to an adult.
Children will complete weekly spelling tests. Please support your child in learning these spellings each week. They will also have two pieces of homelearning a week (a piece of English and Maths).
Please ensure that your child always has their PE kit in school and appropriate clothing and footwear for all weather.
We strive to do the absolute best for your child and make lessons engaging and fun. We welcome any feedback you have; please remember that our doors are always open.
Thank you for all your support and we look forward to seeing you at our open mornings.
