Welcome to Year 6 at Giles Junior School
The teaching teams are as follows:
|Germany||Mr Kent||Mrs Boe|
|Peru||Mrs Woolston||Mrs Smith|
Year 6 is a very special and important year as your child prepares for the transition to secondary school. After three years of learning the 7 habits, your child will have developed into a proactive, independent learner with a growth mindset and be confident about sitting the SATs in May.
We cover lots of exciting topics in Year 6 including World War 2, The Maya Civilisation and The Cold War. All National Curriculum subjects will be covered, including PE which is taught twice a week. To round the year off, the children will go on an action-packed residential trip to PGL.
We have high expectations of your child and find that support from home is invaluable. Reading is a focus throughout Giles Junior. We have well-stocked class libraries in Year 6 and children are expected to read for half an hour at least five times a week. We ask that you monitor your child’s reading and sign the reading record. Home learning should be completed on time and to a high standard and we ask parents to read and sign their child’s homework diary each week and, if necessary, help their child with the tasks that are set.
Thank you for your support and please do not hesitate to contact any member of staff if you have any worries or concerns.
