Habit 4 - Think Win-Win
I look for solutions that are fair for everyone.
At Giles Junior School, we teach children that thinking win-win means considering their own needs alongside the needs of others. It is about showing kindness, expressing ideas confidently and working together to find fair solutions.
Children learn that people can have different views and that everyone deserves to be heard. Thinking win-win does not mean always getting your own way or giving in to others. It means looking for a way forward that respects everyone involved.
In school, this might look like:
-
Taking turns and sharing resources fairly.
-
Listening to another person’s ideas during group work.
-
Explaining your own needs calmly and respectfully.
-
Celebrating someone else’s success.
-
Asking an adult to help resolve a disagreement when needed.
We recognise that finding a fair solution can be difficult, particularly when feelings are strong. Through modelling, discussion and supported problem-solving, we help children develop confidence in working through differences.
At home, you can reinforce this habit by asking: “What would feel fair to both of you?” or “How could we solve this together?”
